Pumpkin: It’s Not Just for Pies Anymore!

May 21, 2012 3:53 pm

Pumpkin: it’s not just for pies anymore! The ubiquitous symbol for fall the pumpkin has proven it is more than just a delicious pie filling but also an ingredient for extremely radiant skin year round.

Chock full of antioxidants, enzymes and vitamins C and K, the pumpkin not only does a body good but also serves as an awesome alternative to harsh exfoliation. Pumpkins have naturally powerful enzymes, that when applied to the skin, delivers important nutrients for cellular rejuvenation. Used often and it will strengthen skin structures and restore softness and elasticity. A gentle, but effective exfoliator, the pumpkin gets rid of dead skin cells for an effective epidermal turnover.

With our constant exposure to pollutants in the environment, sun, stress and not always the best diet, our skin needs the pumpkin’s antioxidant qualities to neutralize these damaging free radicals. And the best benefit is this means, less wrinkles and much healthier skin structures.

While getting a pumpkin body and facial treatment from a skin professional is ideal, not many of us have a lot of time to afford such luxuries. For a low-cost everyday pumpkin treat 360 Skin has an easy recipe using ingredients straight from your pantry that will help you achieve radiant skin for any season:

Pumpkin: It's Not Just for Pies Anymore!

360 Pumpkin Facial Mask

2 teaspoons cooked or canned pumpkin

1/2 teaspoon honey

1/4 teaspoon milk (or whipping cream, if your skin is very dry)

1. Combine ingredients and apply to a clean face with gentle circular motions, avoiding the area around your eyes (stay outside the bone around your eyes as the skin close to your eyes is very thin).

2. Allow mask to remain on skin for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water, pat dry, and apply your usual moisturizer.

Now let’s make a great exfoliant for your body:

The 360 Pumpkin Scrub

1/2 cup cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1. Combine ingredients in a bowl.

2. Stand in a tub or shower stall and use a damp wash cloth to scoop some of the mixture up.

Apply to body, starting with your feet and working your way up, but avoiding your face.  Scrub gently using circular motions.

3. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

These are simple recipes, using ingredients that most people already have in their kitchen already. Try these peels every 10 days and your skin will look awesome!
