Getting Rid of Sun Damage

May 10, 2012 4:15 pm

With summer right around the corner, you may already have plans to spend hours enjoying the sunshine and soaking up the sun’s rays.  When sunbathing is part of your warm-weather routine, you’re putting yourself at risk for developing sun spots, also known as age spots.

Sun spots are a result of excessive sun exposure, and are usually found on the forearms, neck, chest and the back of the hands – anywhere that receives an extra dose of sunshine as you go about your day.

If you want to step into summer with a fresher appearance this year, there are ways to get rid of sun spots for good. Consider these simple treatments an procedures to eliminate sun spots from your summer agenda:

Skin Lightening Serums

An easy fix that is relatively inexpensive is a skin lightening agent. The one we use here at 360 Skin is the popular and effective Ageless Total Skin Lightening Serum by Image. It contains kojic acid (a Japanese derivative of mushrooms), hydroquinone (the most effective skin lightening ingredient available) and bearberry (a very stable, antioxidant version of hydroquinone). Apply to the skin to lighten sun spots, freckles and areas of darker pigmentation. Because sun damage often manifests itself as darkened areas of skin, skin lighteners can help to reverse this damage. This is a slower acting fix and must be used regularly for six – eight weeks before seeing results.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion techniques buff away the skin’s top layers and stimulate collagen and elastin production. A series of microdermabrasion treatments can help peel away the layers of damaged skin and eliminate the appearance of sun spots and patchy hyperpigmentation. Sun spots that have been on the skin for longer periods of time may need to be treated with a combination of microdermabrasion and chemical peel resurfacing techniques. You can receive a microderm on your face, hands, or decolletage with no downtime at all.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are an effective way to ‘strip’ the top layers of skin and get rid of scars, age spots, and blemishes. This is a more gradual approach for sun spot removal, but will also improve the texture and tone of the skin. The treatment helps rebuild new unblemished skin and increases collagen production, the essential element to youthful looking skin.

At 360 Skin we are professionals at both techniques and well versed in the many ways and combinations to best achieve your goals and help you maintain your new, youthful skin. Please visit our website http://www.360skin.com for more information.
