5 Ways to Minimize Enlarged Pores

March 21, 2012 10:31 pm

Your pores play a critical role in keeping your skin healthy and are the difference between smooth, even skin tone and a rough, dull complexion. Your pores provide your skin with the natural oil that’s needed to keep it soft and supple. Sometimes these pores can become enlarged due to the build up of dirt, product, or dead skin cells, but even the cleanest skin can experience larger pores. Larger pores are much more noticeable and unsightly on an otherwise clear complexion. Now although you can’t physically alter the size of your pores, you can give them a smaller appearance. Here are some 360 Skin suggestions:

1. Wash that face: Washing your face daily with a salicylic face wash will help reduce the buildup of dead skin cells and other debris that can clog pores and make them larger. Clear Cell’s Salicylic Gel Cleanser does all this and will also help treat existing acne breakouts..

2. Exfoliate that skin: Don’t forget areas of your body beyond your face, such as your chest and back, which produce as much oil as your face. The pores in these areas can get clogged too, and make your skin look dull, or worse, break out. Image has a great product, Ageless Total Resurfacing Masque, that is perfect for exfoliating and brightening your skins appearance.
3. Eat for pore perfection: Add some flax-seed to your diet. It comes in powder, liquid or whole seed that you can add to baked goods or sprinkle on your salad, yogurt or oatmeal. The fatty acid in flax-seed helps to thin sebum, the oil secreted from the sebaceous glands, which can cause clogged pores.

4. Use a face mask to control oil levels. Big pores usually produce a lot of oil, so applying a clay face mask once a week can help you manage oil levels, minimize pores and get acne breakouts under control. A clay face mask also helps absorb impurities to help your skin look young and revitalized. Alba Botanica Clay Mask is inexpensive and works great!

5. Avoid overusing your skincare products. Use your skincare products only as directed to prevent irritation and redness associated with overuse. Although you may be tempted to wash your face five times a day to keep it clean, don’t do it unless you want to end up with red, itchy skin. Always stick to the instructions on the label and consult a skin care expert, like the guys at 360 Skin, if you have any questions.
