The Modern Man and Waxing: Are they Compatible?

Male waxing is has changed SO much over the last five years alone. With more men getting involved with getting waxed a whole new industry has sprung up around helping men remove unwanted hair and keeping themselves (and their partners) very happy with the results. So now let’s talk about what it means and entails to get waxed as a guy.

Many men who have never been waxed have initial fears and concerns over what exactly goes on. So let’s start at the beginning and discuss various areas.The back and chest are the easiest areas to wax as they are flat plains of skin. That makes for a quick and relatively painless encounter. Note I said “relatively”…waxing is rarely without a little pain.

When you get waxed a warm wax (either a strip wax or a hard wax) is spread over the area where the hair is to be removed. In the case of strip wax, a strip of muslin or cotton is then pressed onto the wax, bonded to the hair, and then removed in one quick movement extracting the hair from the follicle completely. With a hard wax there is no strip of muslin or cotton, the wax itself acts as the encapsulating agent and when dried, removed in a quick motion taking the hair with it. Hard wax is used for the more sensitive areas as it is gentler on the skin.

If you have a low pain threshold (as I do) I recommend my clients to take a couple of Tylenol or Advil beforehand to help with the initial pain. Additionally, seeing your skincare professional on a regular basis is the perfect way to take some of the sting out of the experience. Newer hair is much more willing to come out of the follicle than older courser hair. Generally you can have the hair waxed when it is 1/4″ – 1/2” in length (every 3-5 weeks).

Now onto the positive side of things:

Clean, smooth bare skin. Areas that have been waxed will remain clean up to eight weeks depending on your hair growth. Furthermore, hair grows infinitely softer and less coarse. The major reason is that hair is taken out from the root as opposed to shaving where the hair is just removed from the surface.

Your “best buddy downstairs” will look even bigger. That statement is as true as the day is long. The hair surrounding your junk acts as a great concealer to at least 3/4″ – 1″ of your stuff. Getting rid of that extra hair makes it look much bigger and more impressive than it already looks. Also being hairless down there means less stuff for your partner to have to deal with and/or get distracted by. It also tells that special someone that you care enough to go through a little pain to make them happier….and a happy partner is a much more willing and eager partner.

And we move on…

The wax also acts as an exfoliating agent leaving your skin significantly smoother. This is because the dead skin cells are removed from the top layer hence revealing smoother, peachier skin.

Razors and hair removing creams cause irritation to some guys resulting in a nasty razor rash, cuts or damage. Waxing is much smoother and kinder and it makes the skin feel incredible.
