LED Light Therapy

“What is it? What does it do? Why do I need it”, you ask? Well why don’t we dive into the topic and let me explain this great skincare therapy in full detail. Let’s start with the basics.

What Are LED’s?

LED stands for light-emitting-diodes. First developed by NASA for plant growth experiments in space, LED lights were quickly discovered to have the ability to deliver light deeper into the tissues of the body and promote wound healing and human tissue rejuvenation. Nasa’s final results included: an increase of cell tissue and fibroblast growth of 140-200%, increases in growth of normal human epithelial cells by 155% -171%, and wound healing time decreased by up to 50%.

LED works by sending energy-producing bursts of light into the deep, nutrient rich dermal layers of the skin. The therapy works on a cellular level emitting low-intensity light wavelengths through different colored LED lights much the same way that plants use the sun for photosynthesis, but without the harsh and damaging effects caused by UV rays. Our skin’s tissue has the ability to absorb this light as a source of energy which stimulates and causes a greater cell turnover.

Blue LED Light Therapy

Blue LED lights are used for the treatment of acne related skin conditions. Combined with low level red LED lights, multiple wavelengths are emitted producing free radicals that effectively destroy the bacteria inside the follicles responsible for causing acne.  Additionally, the LED lights boost the skin’s cellular activity, calm the inflammation, and accelerates the skin’s natural healing process.

Professional Red LED light therapy aides in anti-aging treatments by stimulating the fibroblasts that produce collagen and elastin (which gives skin its plump, wrinkle-free look). Red LED lights relaxes the facial muscles to help smooth fine lines and wrinkles and can also help minimize pore size. Additionally, it lightens sun-damage, stretch marks, and helps calm and reduce inflammation in the skin. The results aren’t as intense and dramatic as plastic surgery, but on the plus side it’s a gentler, more natural, less expensive method of achieving the same result.

Amber LED Light Therapy

Amber or yellow LED light therapy is used for the treatment of rosacea or sensitive skin conditions. The combination of lights effectively minimizes skin redness, irritation, and blemishes. It also works to kill bacteria and reduce environmentally caused inflammation.  Over time, yellow light treatments improve skin density, which makes the negative affects of rosacea less apparent.

The Cosmetic Benefits Of LED Light Therapy

LED Treatment is not suitable for you if you are:Pregnant and/or suffering from epilepsy, thyroid condition, photo-allergic or on medication that causes light sensitivity, ie Tetracyline.

So as we’ve seen, LED Light Therapy is a great, non-invasive method of healing the skin, softening fine lines and wrinkles, reducing sun damage, and aiding in the treatment acne (both adolescent and adult).

Here at 360 Skin, my clients are quickly recognizing the incredible benefits of non-invasive LED light therapy. This affordable method of skin rejuvenation can re-energize your skin and help you to achieve and maintain healthy, clear skin.mens[1]96967_small
